Room & Bed very small. Asked for a double and Twin and they did not have twin.
Cold water in washbasin came out hot! Rooms not well soundproofed.
The shower is seperated in bathroom only by a shower curtain that did not reach the floor, thus 90% of the bathroom floor was wet--puddled in water-- after a shower, which caused the guest to mop up afer each shower with a towel.
Breakfast was excellent. Fresh berries and fruit plus cooked breakfast.
It is very centrally located with a wonderful view of Arthurs seat. We quite liked the idea of it being situated within a university complex with lots of friendly students out and about. What impresses one immediately is the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff who went out of their way to facilitate an enjoyable stay. The room was very comfortable and kitted out to a reasonably high standard. Although we didn't get up for breakfast we noted that the breakfast room was quite large ,bright and airy with comfortable seats. Overall, we had an excellent stay and would highly recommend this hotel for comfort, central location , friendly faces, cheap hotel rate and the opportunity to have lunch in the gardens of 'Salisbury House' restaurant /pub, across the road from the hotel (decor beautiful and excellent food).... Absolutely no doubt that we shall be booking this hotel again on our next visit to Edinburgh.
If there was one small criticism one could make, it would be that it is was not apparent from the on line information about the hotel that each room occupant has to pay £5 per night for internet access!
It is not a hotel !!!! It is student university accommodation. Not as good as Edinbugh backpackers re location and comfort. We were misled and actually thought we would be getting Scotish b&b but ended up in student accpommodation with a cafeteria full of over 200 students .. Yuck! And certainly not value for money.Booking, com should research better. I really feel misled and would like an expalination! I paid over $200 to tsay in student accommodation. Backpackers owould have been better and it has a beeter location!
It was within walking distance of the centre of Edinburgh and all the sights. It also had on premise parking for free which is a good thing in Edinburgh.
Masson House is part of the University Halls of Residence. The breakfast room is in a different building on the University campus. The large canteen (for all the people staying on the campus, not just at Masson House) was loud, with lots of people and it was rather hectic.
Cute room, very helpful front desk staff.
Very nice location for conferences and beauty surrounding conferences.
The toilet was really small.
Great service and extremely friendly, helpful staff.
Hi, We really enjoyed the breakfast.
Breakfast was a welcome surprise
Hotel(a very loose description !!)was not advertised as budget accomodation, allegedley 3 star,at price £129,discounted to £59 Allocated room G23,room tiny, bed broken and uncomfortable, walls paperthin,toilet/wetroom,was not very clean, toilet bowl and basin solled, toilet brush seen better days, door was coming apart at bottom due to rising water,no fan working. Generally a bad experience,
The position of Masson House was lovely. Right next to Salisbury Crags and Holyrood Park. Lovely old buildings too. Breakfast was great and all at a great price.
The only thing that I didnt like was that the rooms were not very sound proof and we could hear poeple in the other rooms
I found the reception staff to be more that helpful and also at the reception centre they were very helpful too when i had a bit of a printing problem. The breakfast was lovely and the staff were also very friendly at all time. The rooms were clean. The location isn't great though you have to get buses in and out of city but if that doesn't bother you i would reccommend you stay there. great value for money.
The only thing i didn't like was the fact there is no computers for public use in masson house that you have to go to the reception centre and there isn't many computers there either.
Good location if you don't want to be in the heart of the city - adjacent Holyrood Park. Nice and quiet - plenty of buses to get to city centre, or 20 minutes walk. Good breakfast. Room basic but well-cleaned.
It was previously student accommodation and this is evident. Small room, no frills. Bathroom small and awkward. Breakfast taken in main campus canteen (on a previous stay it was served in Masson House itself)
